Peter Sauber: Teams’ standings can alter once again in Europe – Formula 1 news
Peter Sauber, the team owner of Sauber-Ferrari, expects that the current standings of the teams in 2012 Formula 1 season will change once again in Europe.
Sauber is on fourth place in the constructors’ championship so far, after the first two races of the season held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
It is important to mention here that Sauber driver, Sergio Perez showed an incredible performance in the Malaysian GP and secured second podium finish after following Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who took the victory in the end.
Nevertheless, Perez was very quick and gave a tough time to the Spaniard during the race.
Sauber expressed that the developments in the cars over the course of the season will prove out to be the key success factor for all the rivals.
Moreover, Sauber said that all the contenders will be trying at their best to make the significant improvements for the Chinese and Bahrain Grands Prix. However, he said that the major advancements are expected to happen in Europe which could change the
teams’ position.
“The decisive factor of course is how quickly can the teams develop their cars. Most will have small improvements in the next two races in China and Bahrain, before the major development stages are triggered for the start of the European season in Barcelona.
Then, the balance of power could change,” said Sauber.
Furthermore, he said that the performance in the qualifying is very important. In addition, he said that many midfield teams have been quite competitive during this season and have reduced the gap to the front of the grid.
“The quality in Formula 1 has never been as great as it is today,” he said. “If you don’t get everything right in qualifying, you lose a number of positions. Also, the midfield has moved significantly closer to the front, which can mean an unusually mixed
order on the grid.”
Besides, Perez said that the team is very delighted after the second race and they will try their best to make the essential improvements and the substantial preparations for the upcoming races.
