Peter Sauber confident of staying in Formula 1 for long – Formula 1 news
Peter Sauber is confident that his team will manage to get out of the troublesome time sooner rather than later and will be there is Formula 1 for many years to come.
Although the Swiss team was quite impressive during the previous season, things have gone terribly wrong for them in 2013. They have been unable to deliver strong results, which has really hurt them badly. On top of that, they are suffering some financial
problems, which have created an uncertain situation overall.
Despite all the problems, the team owner is hopeful of getting out of trouble soon. He said, “We will not only see out this season to the end, but we will still be in Formula One for many years. The negotiations which we have been involved are close to reaching
a conclusion. I’m convinced that we will succeed in getting a rescue.”
It is rumoured that Sauber had a meeting with a possible sponsor in Moscow, but he refused to talk about that. When asked about such a deal, he replied, “I do not want to give an opinion on that. It is clear, that we simply need a big, strong partner. It
is one of the most difficult situations since I’ve been in motorsport. For many, we’ve been a very good and a very reliable partner for years. Obviously I’m sorry for any supplier who has had to wait for his money.”
He went onto say that there has never been a problem of such nature with the team in the past and all of the payments to the people involved were made in time. At the moment, Sauber have not paid their lead driver Nico Hulkenberg, who is rumoured to be upset
about the situation, thus planning to leave the team.
Moreover, the Swiss squad has not made payments to engine supplier Ferrari, but Sauber has ensured that the supplies will not be stopped by the engine manufacturers.
There have been some great drivers associated with Sauber in the past and 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen was given a break with the same team in 2001. Moreover, reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel also showed his potential through the Swiss team,
as he was hired as the third driver for them in 2006.
