Peter Sauber does not regret promoting Monisha Kaltenborn as team principal – Formula 1 news
Peter Sauber admits that he has taken the right decision as he promoted Monisha Kaltenborn as the team principal for Sauber F1 after he stepped down just ahead of the Korean GP.
Sauber had confessed that he will not be able to attend all the races as his age is making itself known now. He has just turned 69 earlier this month. He will still be continuing his duties as the team president to which he says that even though one is still
responsible for the decisions taken by the team but the most important ones are made right on the racetrack where he now finds himself difficult to be present at.
Sauber is very hopeful of what Kaltenborn will be bringing to the team.
“She is able to make quick decisions and the right decisions. And the same goes for managing the company. It's a technical driven company. It's very important that you know how to guide the engineers and also designers. And convince them that she's the right
person to be here. For a business and particularly in F1, it's very difficult to find a good succession,” he explained. “And now as we have this succession, I'm not only happy, I'm also very proud. When you have this solution you should really go for it.”
Referring about retiring due to his age he explained that he has not taken the decision because he does not like the sport anymore or that he is tired but rather it is an advantage to hand over responsibilities to young people when they are ready for it.
Kaltenborn has been the part of Sauber team since 1999 when she started as their legal advisor and finding her towards becoming the CEO of the team in just ten years. Sauber’s decision makes her the first woman to head a F1 team since the championship started
back in 1950. She thinks that it might be some kind of Swiss tradition to fight against all odds as she has broken the gender barrier through her gradual progress. She is determined to attain high targets for the team following in Sauber’s steps.
