Peter Sauber says Kamui Kobayashi plays a leading role in team – Formula 1
Sauber team boss, Peter Sauber, has said that both team drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi, are the same in the team but the leading driver role is being played by the Japanese driver. Sauber added that the 2011 Formula 1 aim has been achieved and
seven points are good in the constructor’s championship table.
The Sauber team had an off day in Australia when both C31s were disqualified because of their rear wing assembly design. Sergio had a point scoring finish in that Grand Prix but after the race he slipped further and ended without scoring any points.
Sauber also talked about the previous three races and said, “If it hadn't been for the oversight with the rear wings in Melbourne, our points total would be excellent; as it is, seven points is still okay.”
Sauber team have been regarded as an upper ranked team because their C31 is faster than the Toro Rosso cars and the Force India cars. Both Kamui and Sergio have showed good speed in the opening three races of the season and are placed 11th and
20th respectively.
Perez is yet to open his account in his rookie season and had a crash in the Chinese Grand Prix. Talking about Perez and his performance in his debut season, Sauber commented, “We knew that in Sergio we were getting a quick, young driver. I'm in no doubt
that Sergio will maximise his huge potential step by step. The critical factor here is that he feels comfortable within the team.”
Sauber further added that the Japanese driver is working well with his new role as a leading driver for the team. Sauber commented on the movable rear wing, which was the reason for their disqualification in Australia, and said that the wing is working differently
for many teams but will be helpful in the upcoming races.
Sauber also praised the Pirelli tyres and added that, “Our car is very easy on the tyres, but this has not come about by chance.”
The next part of the 2011 Formula 1 will be contested in Europe when the teams will head to Turkey on the 8th of May.
