Peter Sauber says Sauber’s pace was enough in Abu Dhabi to beat rivals – Formula 1 news
Sauber principal Peter Sauber has said his team had enough pace to beat their competitors in the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Peter added that for the team the point at the end of the Abu Dhabi race weekend was very important for their better ending to the 2011 championship.
The team principal talked about both of their drivers and stated that Sergio Perez with the hard tyres by Pirelli was very strong in the initial stages of the race. Both of the drivers Perez and Kamui Kobayashi with the soft tyres were competitive until
the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
He discussed the race at the Yas Marina Circuit and mentioned that at the end of the Grand Prix, Perez went close to Force India’s Paul di Resta, but in the closing moments of the race, it was impossible for the Mexican driver to do better because he lost
his Kinetic Energy Recovery System.
Talking to reporters, Sauber commented, “For me, looking forward, it was important the car was fast. It is the only car in this region of the grid without a blowing diffuser, and the rules for next season they change because all these blowing things are
more or less forbidden. The next car will not be a revolution, it will be an evolution, and that is a good direction.”
He went on to mention, “We had a similar situation then. We overtook Williams at the last race, because we were behind them and the situation was worse.”
Apart from that, the Hinwil-based outfit principal informed that they are not bringing new parts for the upcoming Brazil Grand Prix, which will be starting from November 25 at Interlagos.
He further added that the updates in the C30 car they made in the 2011 Suzuka race were enough to eliminate the mistakes.
The team driver Kobayashi successfully finished the Abu Dhabi race in the top ten positions. After starting the Grand Prix from the 16th position at the Yas Marina Circuit, he ended up in the 10th spot after running at the medium
and soft compounds.
The team Sauber is placed at the seventh position with 42 points in standings at the moment.
Let’s see how both of the drivers Perez and Kobayashi perform at the Sao Paulo racetrack this weekend.
