Peter Sauber says they are in no rush to decide about their 2013 driver line-up – Formula 1 news
Sauber team owner, Peter Sauber has said that they are in no hurry to decide about their 2013 driver line-up following the news of Sergio Perez’s move to McLaren in the next season.
Perez has recently announced that he is going to join the Woking based team in the coming year as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement. Moreover, he said that he is feeling excited about the new opportunity. He also said that he is feeling very pleased that he has
finally proven his potential and has successfully made his way into a big team.
Meanwhile, Sauber has wished the Mexican driver all the success in the future and has said that they are very happy that the youngster has secured a race seat in such a legendary team.
“Sergio has been given the opportunity to drive for McLaren, one of the most successful teams in the history of Formula One,” Sauber said in a statement. “We wish him all the best for this move.”
The 22-year-old has performed amazingly well in the season so far and is presently standing at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 66 points.
In addition, the Swiss has said that they are going to provide their driver with everything which he may need to perform well in the remainder of the season so as to make his mark stronger in this year’s championship fight.
Besides, when he was asked about their next year’s driver line-up, he responded that they are not going to take the decision in any kind of hustle and will take the necessary time for it.
“Before he leaves, there are still six races to come in which we will give Sergio our utmost support with the aim of gaining as many points as possible. As to our drivers for 2013, we will announce them in due course,” he added.
According to some reports, the Swiss team is considering Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham, ex-Toro Rosso driver, Jaime Alguersuari and their own reserve driver, Esteban Gutiérrez as potential replacement of Perez.
It will be interesting to see who will drive as Kamui Kobayashi’s teammate in the next season.
