Peter Sauber thinks Formula 1 has become too expensive – Formula 1 news
Sauber team owner, Peter Sauber has said that Formula 1 has become too expensive and believes that cutting costs is going to be the biggest challenge for the teams in the future.
Sauber insisted that there is an urgent need to put a budget cap as huge cost is not only a problem for smaller teams as some of the big contenders are also facing the same issues. Furthermore, he said that F1 is becoming too expensive nowadays which is
quite an alarming situation.
“I think the biggest challenge today is the commercial part,” Sauber said according to Autosport. “That's not only for Sauber, that's also for some of the big teams. Formula 1 is too expensive today, that's the important fact.”
On the other hand, Formula 1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone has been in discussion with some of the constructors to take the necessary cost-cutting measures for the well-being of the sport.
However, Sauber has insisted that the bigger teams should pay more attention towards putting a cap on the budgets in order to make it affordable for smaller contenders.
“The progress has been slower than slow,” Sauber said. “It's difficult and I hope that the big teams realise that they have to do something.”
In addition, the team principal of the Hinwil based squad, Monisha Kaltenborn also expressed her support for the budget cap.
Besides, she said that the budgets of the big teams are too high as compared to the smaller ones which have made it very difficult for the latter to compete well in the sport. Therefore, there is a strong need to put a cap on the budgets.
“We very much support a budget cap,” Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn said earlier in the season. “That is the right way we should be going and we should eventually reach the point where we have a budget cap.”
It will be important to mention that the competition is becoming tougher and tougher amongst the contenders with the passage of time and the bigger teams have competitive edge due to their huge spending. Let’s see whether FIA decide to put limit on the budgets
or not.
