Peter Schiergen confident of Girolamo’s success in Bet365 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood
Peter Schiergen’s 3-year-old colt, Girolamo, is out to cause an upset in the Bet365 Gordon Stakes, to be held at Goodwood on Tuesday, July 31st.
Ten days after guiding Danedream to a close win in the Group 1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes Sponsored By Betfair at Royal Ascot, Schiergen and jockey A. Starke have joined hands to produce a shocking result in today’s Group 3 meeting.
Girolamo has been struggling with his form since making a winning debut at Krefeld. The son of Dai Jin, however, showed plenty of improvement, when finishing third behind Pastorius in the Group 1 Sparda 143 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg on the first of this
month.
It was a very close battle among Pastorius, Novellist and Girolamo, but Schiergen’s trainee eventually became the unlucky loser, as he missed the runner-up spot only by a short head’s distance.
Danedream's achievements at the top level have depicted how good Schiergen is with his work, and Girolamo is well prepared for a cracking performance at Goodwood.
The handler expressed satisfaction over the conditions, but admitted that some rain would be a huge plus for his charge.
"His work has been good and I'm happy with him. I am not sure how good the other horses are, but his run in the German Derby is good form, as the winner won again on Sunday. A little bit of rain would be better for him, but I think the ground will be OK,"
Schiergen said.
Another star runner in the Bet365 Gordon Stakes is Noble Mission. The brother of Frankel has been performing consistently since the start of this season.
Only a couple of days after Frankel dominated the proceedings in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, Noble Mission missed the first place by half a length in the King Edward VII Stakes.
It will be a tough outing for the 3-year-old, but the connections are happy with the way he progressed recently. Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Prince Khalid Abdullah, stated:
"It's a very competitive race but he has progressed well since Ascot. He's been running consistently well throughout the year and hopefully he can now step up to winning a Group race."
