Peter Siddle earns late call-up in Australia A team for Zimbabwe tour – Cricket News Update
The out of favour Australian pace bowler, Peter Siddle, has been picked in the country’s A squad, to tour Zimbabwe later this month.
The 26-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 pacer was picked in Australia’s unsuccessful 2010-11 Ashes series but was later overlooked for the World Cup tour of subcontinent earlier this year and has not been in the national side since then.
He will replace James Faulkner in the two four-day matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, as the latter was ruled out of the Zimbabwe itinerary due to glandular fever.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Mark-Jefferson-Hilditch-c44498, today confirmed that Faulkner has been ruled out of Zimbabwe trip.
"Unfortunately http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643 has been ruled out of the Australia A tour of Zimbabwe with glandular fever," Hilditch told the media reporters.
Siddle was also part of the list of centrally contracted 25 players that was announced earlier this month. The Zimbabwe tour with Australia A team will provide Siddle an opportunity to press his claims for national team’s tour to Sri Lanka in August.
Siddle emerged on the international cricket arena in October 2008 with a Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in Mohali, and has so far played 22 Tests, picking up 74 wickets at an average of 32.10 and an economy rate of 3.06 per over.
The right-arm pacer does not have equally encouraging figures in the one-day cricket though, as he averages 38.73 with a tally of 15 wickets from 17 one day internationals.
Another player from the centrally contracted players’ list, who has been called into the A team, is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 all-rounder, John Hastings. Hastings has been called in as Faulkner’s replacement for the limited over matches.
"The national selection panel has decided that John Hastings will join the Australia A tour for the one-day series and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Matthew-Siddle-c81822 will join the squad for the longer format games," revealed the Cricket Australia selection committee chairman.
Hilditch told the media reporters that the selection panel was keen to see the duo playing under match conditions ahead of the Sri Lanka tour.
"Both John and Peter have had a reasonable period off cricket and the tour gives them a great opportunity to bowl at international level ahead of potential selection for the Australian tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758."
Australia A will kick start its Zimbabwe tour with a one-day game on June 29, 2011, while the two-match first-class series will commence on July 15.
