Peter Stringer called upon for Ireland squad – Six Nations update
The upcoming Ireland’s fixture against France this Sunday in a Six Nation’s venture has caused much anticipation. Peter Stringer, the Munster’s scrum half has been invited to join in the Irish squad for the French encounter in the place of Tomas O’Leary.
Tomas O’Leary has been complaining about a back pain and will be sidelined till the further development. He was also named for the Declan Kidney’s squad as a starting lineup attack in Aviva Stadium fixture. Now he is unavailable for both the matches.
O’Leary has not been injured but the pain has limited his movements and his ability to cope up with the training sessions. After his problem not showing any sign of improvement, Stringer was called upon and O’Leary is taken off the field for a while.
Peter Stringer is an experienced Irish rugby union player who usually plays as a scrum half for Ireland and Munster both. The 33 year old is one of the most noticeable players in the world of rugby. His 5ft 7in height makes him part of handful of short players
in rugby union. He is also nicknamed as Strings.
Stringer joined Munster in 1998 and has been playing for the club since then. He has earned 207 caps for Munster and scored 50 points as a scrum half. He became a part of elite rugby in 200 when Ireland called him for his services. Since then he has scored
30 points and earned 95 caps for his national side. Stringer is included in top ten list of rugby union of Test caps.
Paul McNaughton the Irish team manager said, “Tomas is not ruled out of the game, but we will wait and see how he progresses over the next 48 hours before making any decisions on changes to the match 22.”
He further added, “Tomas has had a rigid back which has not adequately improved over the course of the week, so we thought it was cautious to call Peter up to stay with the team.”
Ireland has overall added eleven players to the squad after the current 22 found difficulty in streamlining a victory. There next fixture against France seems to be their fate decider in Six Nations. Ireland has to defeat the French monsters to survive in
the top three.
