Peter Torebko vs Tobias Kamke – Semi-final Preview: Loughborough Challenger 2011
The semi finals of the men’s single competition at the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger is scheduled be played on November 12, 2011 between German players Peter Torebko and Tobias Kamke.
23-year old Torebko would be the underdog in this match as he faces an experienced opponent. In the ATP circuit, Torebko has a win/loss ratio of 2/4. Kamke, on the other hand, has an ATP win/loss ratio of 100/84.
World number 108th, Kamke, has scored 117 aces in his career and can use his service games to create a lead in the crucial parts of the match. Torebko has scored with 12 aces in his career, which could become a problem
for him, as he would need all the power to score aces in order to sustain a lead.
Kamke, who played the first round of the 2010 US Open, French Open; the second round of 2010 and 2011 French Open and the third round of 2010 Wimbledon, has considerable Grand Slam experience under his belt. He would be better
able to take the pressure in the semi final match.
Torebko, who has yet to make his Grand Slam debut, would have to make a flying start in both the sets if he wishes to lead into the match and win it.
In the current tournament, Torebko won the first round match against James Ward (Great Britain), 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. In the second round, he beat Oliver Golding (Great Britain) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Torebko won the quarterfinals
against Go Soeda (Japan) 0-6, 7-6(8), 6-2.
Soeda thrashed Torebko in the first set they played in their quarterfinals. Kamke would be looking to do the same in his semi final match against Torebko. Kamke would try to gain some valuable points from the match where Torebko
played against Soeda. If Kamke has to win the match, then his service games should be on the spot.
Kamke also has been playing well in the tournament. He defeated Fabrice Martin (France) in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. In the second round match, he beat Conor Niland (Ireland) 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. He then defeated compatriot Andre Begemann
6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Both players have won their respective games of the tournament in straight sets and can possibly win a set in straight sets in their semi final match. Whichever player wins the first set and that too in straight sets would gain
a psychological advantage over the other.
Kamke would try to gain an advantage with his service games as he has won 71% service games. Torebko, on the other hand, has won 60% of his service games.
Entering the finals, both players can win the match for they have the potential to clinch a win to enter the finals of the tournament.
