Somerset’s lanky fast bowler, Peter Trego, is not bothered by the unavailability of England's Twenty20 specialists Craig Kieswetter and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826
defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 by six wickets.
Wicketkeeper batsman Craig Kieswetter is in England’s ODI and T20 squads for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, while Jos Buttler has been called up for the one-off T20 only, hence making them unavailable for Somerset’s Flt20 campaign this season.
However, Trego is taking heart from Somerset’s exceptional performance in the 2011 T20 Champions League, where they were without four key players but still finished as the semi-finalists, and is hopeful even the depleted squad will do wonders in the
Twenty20 tournament.
"You always feel that you can cope when you lose big players,” said the 31-year-old right-arm medium pace bowler on the eve of Somerset’s 2012 Flt20 opener against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 on Wednesday.
“Most teams in the country suffer quite badly when they lose two main players, which we are potentially going to do (without Kieswetter and Buttler). But it just gives you that feeling that you can get by and win games without them,” he added further.
In last year’s T20 Champions League in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754 – and were considered
as underdogs. But the young side reached tournament semi-finals, where they lost to eventual champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians.
Trego agreed that Kieswetter and Buttler are talented players and will be missed during the tournament, however he was hopeful the young side would take the responsibility in the duo's absence.
"They are obviously phenomenally talented members of our team and hugely important, but life does go on when these guys go off to represent their country and the Champions League showed that we can compete and compete hard without them."
Somerset will play their opening game of the 2012 Flt20 tournament against Warwickshire, at County Ground Taunton today, June 13, 2012.
