Peter Uihlein leads the Kazakhstan Open after round one
Peter Uihlein fired a stunning nine-under par 63 on Thursday and stormed into a two-stroke lead over Seve Benson, at the Kazakhstan Open, the European Challenge Tour’s ‘Major’.
The former World Amateur Number One got off to a perfect start and carded four birdies against a lone bogey on the back nine of the course.
The front nine of the course witnessed him record some astonishing shots, as he managed to sign four birdies and an amazing eagle for a 30 on the scorecard.
The highlight of his performance includes his tee shot on the 341-yard par-four eighth hole. He drove the ball to just within three feet of the pin and turned in the ball in two, thereafter.
His outstanding performance in the opening round was not something new to anyone in the field. In the last five tournaments that he played, recorded top-10 finishes in all of them.
According to him, he failed to record a victory last week because of some issues in his putting technique.
Therefore, he spent a great deal of time with his coach, tweaking his game on the greens, and the results were quite clear at the Zhailjau Golf Resort.
“It was a good day,” said the 23 year old. “I putted badly in Russia last week so I've spent a lot of time on it preparing for this week. It’s nice to see results so quickly”.
“I'm just hitting it well at the moment. I went through a spell of just really hitting it poorly and I'm starting to hit it better again. I really appreciate hitting it so well and feeling good out on the course,” he added.
“I'm just trying to treat it like any other tournament out there. I did that today and it’s nice to get off to a good start”.
Uihlein now wants to record a victory on the Challenge Tour in order to confirm his card for the 2013 European Tour season.
He believes that if he continuous with the same pace and maintains consistency in his putting, he will be holding the first professional trophy of his career soon.
