Peter Vanderkaay and Erika Erndl shine in Gainesville: Day three – USA Swimming Sectionals
Day three of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals ended with the dominating performances of Peter Vanderkaay and Erika Erndl in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, July 9.
Peter Vanderkaay secured the title in the Men’s 400m freestyle meet, whereas, Erika Erndl won the Women’s 50m freestyle race. Ben Hesen captured the Men’s 100m back-stroke meet and Mark Weber won the Men’s 50m freestyle event.
Vanderkaay nabbed the Men’s 400m freestyle crown after he touched the finishing wall in a winning time of 3 minutes and 53.02 seconds. Earlier, he posted the fastest time of 3 minutes and 52.51 seconds, in June, 2011. Yoelvis Pedraza touched the wall in
4 minutes and 00.98 seconds to secure silver, whereas, Jonathan Jordan snared bronze in 4 minutes and 02.89 seconds.
In the Women’s 50m freestyle meet, Erika Erndl of T2 picked up the top seed in 25.95 seconds, whereas, Anne Marie Botek and Kelsi Hall wound up second with a tie at 26.06 seconds. Earlier, Erndl secured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle meet on
Friday.
Ben Hesen clinched the Men’s 100m back-stroke event with a sterling time of 56.69 seconds. Fernando Ernesto Santos wound up second in 56.91 seconds and Rex Tullius of Daytona Beach rounded out the top three in 57.50 seconds.
The Men’s 50m freestyle event was taken over by Club Seminole’s swimmer, Mark Weber, with a record time of 23.64 seconds. Bradley Deborde of Patriot wound up second in 23.79 seconds, whereas, Brett Fraser of Gator snared third spot in a time of 23.88 seconds.
The Women’s 400m medley relay crown was captured by the T2 swimming club in time of 4 minutes and 17.38 seconds. Meanwhile, Gator swimming club snagged the Men’s 400m medley relay title with a triumphant time of 3 minutes and 50.64 seconds.
Earlier, Elizabeth Beisel won the Women’s 100m back-stroke event with a winning time of 1 minute and 02.98 seconds, while Ryan Lochte of Daytona Beach snared the Men’s 200m Individual Medley title with a time of 1 minute and 59.13 seconds.
