Peter Warr passed away
Ex-Lotus team manager Peter Warr died of a heart attack at the age of 72. He passed away in France.
Warr took the responsibility of team Lotus after the owner of Colin Chapman died in 1982. He worked alongside Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna in their grooming careers and helped them become what they became later on. Before that, he worked under Chapman
in the 70s and played a part in the title successes of Emerson Fittipaldi and Jochen Rindt. He decided to join a new team known as “Wolf”, overseeing its start up before an eventual handover to Emerson in 1981.
The CEO of FIA Bernie Ecclestone paid a tribute to Warr on the official Formula 1 website moments after his death.
"Not only have I lost a good friend who was the team manager for Lotus when Colin Chapman ran the company but Peter Warr, who died yesterday of a heart attack will be missed by the thousands of people that knew him," he said.
Peter Warr played a huge role in building Formula 1 and taking it to the next level. He was a great friend of Bernie and Bernie always looked up to him. Peter was the man who brought people like Ayrton Senna to the table and as we all know, Ayrton Senna
took driving to a level that many believe no one will ever be able to achieve. It was sad though that Ayrton had to leave the world way before his time due to an unfortunate accident at the San Marino Grand Prix.
Peter was a great person and every driver appreciated his opinion about the sport. He stepped up alongside Bernie when no one even dreamed that Formula 1 would become what it is today. Warr believed that Formula 1 was not just a sport but a training ground,
a technological firm more, and the last couple of years have been an example of that as Formula 1 is way ahead technologically than many other motorsports.
“When Peter was in Formula 1 he helped me to build it to what it is today. Thank you”, said the CEO of the FIA.
