  1. lots of fighting

  2. It's not good. It has a reputation of being crime ridden, high unemployment and awash with eastern europeans.

  3. It doesn't smell so much of dead whales anymore, it does have a special prison for s*x offenders though

  4. Unfortunately, Peterhead has a reputation as crime central of North East Scotland.  It is still always freezing no matter how much the sun shines.

  5. The town has expanded considerably since it was a huddle of buildings around the harbour in the 'twenties. Unfortunately, there is much truth in the first 3 answers: the sense of a close-knit community has been largely lost with the reduction in employment in fishing -  there used to be fleets of small boats, now a few high-tech big ones devastate the remaining fish stocks. Oilfield service industries have become a major employer, but brought in many transient workers, rather than helping create a stable community.

On the good side, Peterhead Bay is still attractive, with a good beach, there is a sailing club and a recent marina filled with small yachts.

  6. Fit Like?

I have to agree with the Aberdeen Tyke.  Peterheid now has a hellish reputation and is well known to the local flatfeet as being the drugs capital of the North East. Yes, there are a h**l-of-a-lot of Eastern European immigrants, but they are cropping up everywhere in large numbers.

The housing situation in Peterheid is not very good, and alongside the Broch, it is NOT a place that many people recommend as a place to get a house with the local authorities. The prison is fit to burst, and the town has definately seen better days.  Aberdeenshire Council doesn't have the money for vast improvements, but I suppose they do what they can with the money allocated.  Unfortunately, it's a little too late, as they have let it get pretty run down over the past 20 years or so, and it's going to take more than a heap of allocated money to bring the town back to what it once was.

But, on it's defence, Peterheid is still one of the top ports up here for fishing, which is also one of the main sources of income to the area.
