Peterson Crisanto downs Josh Kerr to claim Reef Pro El Salvador title – Surfing news
Brazil’s Peterson Crisanto took out the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Reef Pro El Salvador after claiming an exciting victory over Australia’s Josh Kerr in the final that went down at Punta Roca in La Libertad, El Salvador, on Sunday,
July 14, 2013.
Both the surfers had been in great form throughout the course of the event, but in the end, it turned out to be the Brazilian sensation, who turned out to be in a superior form and thus walked away with his first major win.
“This is my first ASP 6-Star event win,” Crisanto said. “I’ve been training really hard and before this event I went to Mexico and trained on the right points there. I’m so stoked to get my first win. I’m shaking right now, I can’t believe I won!”
The road to the final at the latest ASP 6-Star event had been quite a challenging one, with a number of World Championship Tour contenders also in contention for the coveted ASP ranking points and hefty prize purse on offer.
Delivering one impressive performance after another, Crisanto and Kerr claimed win after win to gradually make their way into the finals, where they found themselves pitted against one another.
Having seen each other perform over the previous rounds of the competitions, both the surfers were aware of the fact that they needed to come up with something special to have any real chance of finishing on top of the other.
As the battle got underway, Kerr was the first one to clinch an upper hand. Locking his first business-wave, he posted a 5.50 on the score-board to take hold of the lead.
However, Crisanto soon stepped ahead of him with a 7.83 off his first business-wave. Keeping the momentum going, the Brazilian surfer locked another juicy wave and unloaded a series of powerful carves and turns, thus earning an 8.60 for the effort and consequently
moving to a heat-total of 16.43 points.
Kerr found himself in a desperate situation and stepped-up, but he only managed to add an additional 7.33 points to his account, thus finishing with a heat-total of 12.83 points. As a result, he was forced to surrender victory to his rival.
