The son of Kyllachy, out of mare Pious, came under the training of O’Meara in 2012, as he was trained by William Haggas until 8th February, 2012.

The bay gelding has really shown progression under his new trainer, and pleased him with the fantastic victory.
The six-year-old gelding was the mounted by jockey, Daniel Tudhope, and the duo took the race with their brisk pace.

Penitent bagged the victory as he finished 1 ¾ length before the John Gosden trained Questioning, who was ridden by renowned jockey, William Buick.

Questioning, son of Elusive Quality, out of mare, Am I, failed to deliver, as he was expected to perform well after succeeding in the Group 3 Weatherbys Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket on 19th April, 2012.
Penitent’s performance was also appreciated by the spectators and many officials as Keith Bradley, Middleham Park Racing manager stated to the press that:

"David O'Meara has done a tremendous job with a horse who had feet and joint problems and I don't think he is a soft-ground horse any more. I'd love to take on Frankel but there are options for him at Royal Ascot."
If Penitent continues to perform in the manner that he is performing, then the future looks promising for him.

Whelped on 3rd February, 2006, the bay gelding triumphed in the Best Odds Guaranteed At williamhill.com Doncaster Mile Stakes at Doncaster on 1st April, 2012.
