http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 have been playing some exceptional football this season, and under the tutelage of their new head coach, Vladimir Petkovic, they have been playing some really attractive football as well. They have been more organised, more potent and definitely more
clinical in front of goal. Petkovic has continued the work of the former Biancocelesti head coach, Edy Reja, who instilled enough steel and back bone in the squad that Petkovic had a good base to start with.
Reja then went on a sabbatical from the career that he has been a part of for all of his life, and he has praised the performances of his team after his departure. Their performances in Europe as well as the Serie A have been great and the team have done
exceptionally well in the cup competitions as well. However, last night was a different equation as they were pegged back by a much rejuvenated Siena outfit.
This was the first match after the axe of Serse Cosmi, as the Siena boss was shown the exit door following his performances in the Lega. However, they have gone on to perform well under the situation and performed exceptionally well against Lazio; Petkovic
remarked on their performance as well and stated that that the opposition they played against deserves credit for playing as well as they did.
He conceded that they had made life difficult for them. Furthermore, he also remarked that the substitutes proved vital for their performance in the match. While commenting on the match, he was quoted to have said:
“The important thing was to qualify, albeit with a big struggle, but we did it. In the first half we made life rather difficult for ourselves and played a little too cleanly, while after the break the substitutes gave the boost we needed. Siena deserve credit,
as they were solid and pushed us all the way. Fortunately we believed to the very end.”
Their quarter-final tie will be up against Catania.
