Petr Cech believes Chelsea can win Champions League this year
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech today spoke of his belief-that his club will finally add the elusive UEFA Champions League title to their bulging trophy cabinet this season.
Since Roman Abramovich took over the club in 2003, the Stamford Bridge outfit has won three English Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two Football League Cups and two FA Community Shields.
Despite their huge domestic success, glory has eluded them in Europe so far. They came close in the 2007-08 season when Captain John Terry was just a penalty away from the trophy, but he slipped and Chelsea lost the penalty shootout to Manchester United.
But this season, Cech feels that it is Chelsea’s time to claim the biggest prize in club football.
Great start to Premier League season
Chelsea has gotten this term off to a blistering start, with two 6-0 victories in the league highlighting their run which has seen them pick up maximum points from their four games so far. Cech feels that, if his side can bring that domestic form to the
continental stage, the Champions League will be there for the taking.
Ahead of Chelsea’s first group stage match against MSK Zilina tonight, he told reporters today that, "We are coming here in a very good mood. We have been playing very well recently and we are ready to go in the Champions League. Last year we won the (league
and FA Cup) double, which is a great achievement, but we couldn't progress in the Champions League, that's the way it is.”
"The previous seasons we have always been in the semi-final and once in the final, but we all believe that this time is going to be the breakthrough. We all believe before every season that we can go all the way and win it."
