http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 goalkeeper Petr Cech revealed his side were desperate to win the UEFA Champions League but insisted they were not obsessed with the European Cup. After their win over Bayer Leverkusen in the opening fixture of the group stages, Chelsea travel to
Valencia for what is considered to be their toughest match in Group E.
Ever since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club, the Blues have been determined to win the European trophy. However, they have been unable to do so, winning all the other trophies instead. It is believed that because of their failure in the
competition, winning it has become an obsession.
Cech insisted that his side were as determined as the other top clubs to win the Champions League. The 29-year-old revealed that the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 were equally, if not more, obsessed as Chelsea to get their hands on
the European cup.
Cech said while speaking to reporters:
“Show me a team of the stature of Chelsea, Man United, Real Madrid or Barcelona who is not obsessed with winning the Champions League.
If they are not, I'd be surprised why they play in it.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international felt it did not matter if a club had won the Champions League before. He was certain all the teams in the competition were equally eager to get their hands on the trophy, which made the competition all the more tougher to
win.
He continued:
“In a positive way, we try to search for the victory. I think it's very good to have this 'obsession' because, if you're not hungry to win, you shouldn't play.”
The Blues have recently always had http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Good-Luck-c39444 in the early stages of the Champions League, never failing to make it to the knockout stages. Cech was certain they could secure a place at the top of their group with a win over the La Liga side on Wednesday.
Cech revealed:
“When you are going for every trophy, it's always good to have as many points as possible as early as possible in the Champions League and then you can concentrate on the league and the Carling Cup.”
