Petr Cech still dreaming of English Premier League crown for Chelsea
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is refusing to give up the chase for the Premier League title.
The veteran shot-stopper claims that the Blues are still in with a shot of retaining their crown in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Many would scoff at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837’s optimism; however, with the surprises we have seen so far in the League, it seems that anything is still possible. Chelsea are currently nine points behind leaders Manchester United. On paper, it looks like a gap that cannot
be overcome, but with the Red Devils losing two games in quick succession recently, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 are slowly but surely starting to catch up.
The Blues got a vital win against United recently, followed by a comfortable win against newly promoted Blackpool, earning themselves six points in as many days. If they can continue this form, they are still in with a real shot of retaining their Barclays
Premier League crown, something that goalkeeper Petr Cech believes his side is still capable of.
Speaking on Chelsea’s title chances this season, Cech said, “Step by step we are getting back where we belong. In the next round we host Manchester City and if we beat them we will be in third spot. We have one game in hand over United, we are to play against
them once more, so anything can happen.”
He added, “This win (against Blackpool) has provided us with some sort of chance if they (Manchester United) keep on dropping points and we keep winning.”
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has already stated that he is no longer chasing the Premier League title. The Italian claims that he is focusing on the Champions League in the season. However, the Blues boss might also secretly believe that his side still has a
chance of finishing at the summit of the Premier League.
Chelsea are currently in fourth place with 51 points, nine points behind Manchester United. The Blues will face off against the Red Devils once more during the final weeks of the campaign. Who knows what will happen between now and that time, but if the
table stays roughly the same, that encounter might well decide the destination of the Premier League crown.
