Petr Koukal easily clears first round at Yonex Canada Open 2013 – Badminton news
Check Republic’s top badminton player, Petr Koukal, showed his aggression in Men’s Singles first round and easily sent Philippines’ Mark Shelley Alcala at the Yonex Canada Open 2013 in Richmond, on Wednesday, July 17.
The in-form Koukal, who is the 15th seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, played with impressive speed and wrapped up a comprehensive victory while spending just 22 minutes on court.
Koukal was comfortable on court and he showed a greater level of confidence while playing all of his shots without any problem. He easily finished off this contest in straight games by a completely lopsided margin of 21-9 and 21-7.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Alcala could not pose threat to his higher ranked opponent at any stage in this contest. He was lacking the speed and finishing touch in his shots and crashed out without leaving any strong impact on the crowd.
Koukal started his journey in the first round with impressive speed and aggression. He did not let Alcala to find a good rhythm at the initial stage and took no time in setting up an early lead.
Meanwhile, Alcala tried to play better badminton but he failed to place his shots accurately in the targeted areas and eventually remained far behind until the interval.
After the one-minute break, Koukal did not show any sign of mercy to his un-seeded challenger at any stage. He was quick and aggressive in the execution of strokes that enabled him to wrap up the first set with a stunning margin of 21-9.
The second game was identical when Koukal again took an early lead without facing any trouble from his opponent. He sailed smoothly until the one-minute break and created a huge gap on the board.
Alcala was helpless against the speed and aggressive play of his opponent. He could not pick the bird early and remained struggling all the way.
However, Koukal was quite consistent in finding gaps and accurately placing his shots in these gaps. He continued his uninterrupted run in the concluding part of second set and won the game with a staggering 21-7 score on the board.
