Petr Koukal topples Calum Menzies in group stage of 2013 European Mixed Team Championships
Men’s Singles shuttler Petr Koukal employed all of his brilliance in the game and defeated Calum Menzies in the group stage of European Mixed Team Championships on February 14, 2013.
This 37-minute tussle kept both contenders head-to-head for two games before ending with final result of 19-21 and 16-21.
Petr Koukal took some time to get on right tack but he managed to gain required momentum and cruised to a straight-set victory.
On the other hand, Calum took off in perfect manner but his fluctuated performance brought him down.
In first set of the match, the Scottish campaigner played with an authoritative approach and bagged many valuable points in a row. He unleashed a series of productive strokes and pushed his rival on the back foot.
Calum was in strong position with a decent total when Petr Koukal turned the tables with a staggering knock.
The talented Czech shuttler played with great precision and pocketed few uninterrupted points. This power packed campaign helped him to counterbalance the situation before one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, Petr showed consistency in his performance and strengthened his grip over game. Though, couple of unforced errors made things difficult for him but he managed to reinstate his dominance in third quarter of the set.
He displayed superior finishing skills and wrapped this segment of the showdown in a favourable manner. He registered 21-19 margin on the board and claimed this vital match point.
The following game was also played in similar fashion as both contenders stood toe-to-toe in the establishing rallies but then Petr struck hard when it mattered and locked the honour.
Initially, the Scottish player looked completely on song but he could not make best out of his form. Meanwhile, the opposing shuttler capitalised his rival’s blunders and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
Petr kept on trailing behind his competitor in the beginning but he managed to end his bad patch way before the break.
The latter part of game was completely dominated by the Czech campaigner. He did not give his opponent even a single chance to proceed on points table and piled up a winning total of 21-16.
