Petra Cetkovska defeats Melinda Czink to reach round two – Fes WTA 2012
Third seed, Petra Cetkovska, took down the Hungarian qualifier, Melinda Czink, in straight sets at the Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem 2012 on Tuesday. She penned down a 6-4, 6-2 victory against the 29-year-old to charge into the second round
on Moroccan dirt.
The Czech star, Cetkovska, impressively defended all breakpoints she came across and swiped in her entire serves with conviction. She cashed in all three break opportunities to pull out the victory in one hour and 18 minutes.
30th ranked Cetkovska comfortably entered the Royal Tennis Club de Fes and held her opening serve to tie the scores at 1-1. She held her composure after that and continued fishing out easy point to pluck her remaining serves. The Czech got the
breakthrough in the seventh game and pocketed the opener by winning six games to four.
The 27-year-old kept momentum rolling into the proceeding set and after breaking her Hungarian rival’s serve twice, she jumped to a 5-1 lead. Cetkovska then held her serve once more and sealed the set with a 6-2 win. She again displayed amazing defensive
skills and converted both break chances to her advantage.
Summing up the seed’s performance, Cetkovska dropped more double faults but fired four aces to neutralise it. She also clobbered a better first serve share of 68 per cent as opposed to Czink’s 57 per cent and amazingly marked 32 out of 44 points on it.
Up next for Cetkovska is the Swiss competitor, Timea Bacsinszky, who earned a 2-6, 4-0 retirement victory over the Russian qualifier, Arina Rodionova.
The second seed, Svetlana Kuznetsova, also cruised into the round of 16 after crushing Greece’s Eleni Daniilidou with a breadstick. She smoothly plucked the opener with a breadstick after cashing in all three break chances. The world number 27 lost her track
in the second set and after losing her serve three times, she went 2-5 down. However, Kuznetsova unleashed her form after that and went on a five-game killing spree, consequently sealing the set with a 7-5 win.
Kuznetsova will next confront the Romanian star, Irina-Camelia Begu, who trounced Timea Babos to set-up this encounter.
