Petra Cetkovska downs Lourdes Dominguez Lino to reach round three – Mutua Madrid Open 2012
Czech tennis star, Petra Cetkovska, took down the local qualifier, Lourdes Dominguez Lino, in straight sets at the Mutua Madrid Open 2012 on Monday. She penned down a 6-4, 7-5 victory against the world number 103 to charge into the third round at this blue clay court tournament taking place from 4th May to 13th May in Spain.
The Prostejov native showed top notch performance to outsmart Dominguez Lino in one hour and 47 minutes. Encountering each other for the third time, the Czech not only improved to a 3-0 record in the head-to-head series against the 31-year-old but also booked a place in the round of 16 at the Park Manzanares.
Cetkovska thundered into this WTA Premier Mandatory event and drew the first blood in the opening game to take the initial lead. Regardless of losing her serve in the very next game, the Czech unleashed barrage of powerful groundstrokes and jumped to a 5-1 lead. She gifted away her serve in the eighth game but bagged the opener by winning six games to four after keeping her serve once more.
The 27-year-old lost her track towards the follow-up set and after gifting away her opening serve, she fell at 0-3. Cetkovska was trailing 1-4 when she rebounded and reeled off the proceeding four games in a row. The Czech exchanged a serve break after that and held her serve once more to clinch the set with a 7-5 score line.
Summing up the 29th ranked Czech’s performance, Cetkovska jolted down a better first serve share of 71 per cent as opposed to her opponent’s 53 per cent and impressively availed 36 out of 57 points on it. The Czech also blocked eight out of 12 breakpoints she faced and cashed in six out of 10 break opportunities.
Next challenge for the Czech is fifth seeded Samantha Stosur, who bounced back to outrun Christina McHale in three sets to occupy this spot.
Cetkovska’s compatriot, Petra Kvitova, also stole the show later that day. The third seed dumped New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic in straight sets in 67 minutes to progress at this event.
