Petra Cetkovska upsets Anabel Medina Garrigues in first round – Western & Southern Open 2011
Petra Cetkovska outfoxes Anabel Medina Garrigues in the first round of the Western and Southern Open 2011. Czech Cetkovska won the match 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 on the hard courts of the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio in one
hour, and 48 minutes.
The 29-year old (Garrigues) had won a praiseworthy 14 out of 25 return points, making it an above average 56% because of a strong backhand; her points were 20% more than her opponent's.
Czech Cetkovska gave only three break point chances to her the 29-year-old Espanola (Garrigues) as she was able to save 50% of her break points, instead broke her opponent once, making it a 100% win. While the Hispanic was only
able to bag 50% of her break points.
Garrigues restricted her opponent to only two games and therefore, won the set with a flawless victory of 20% more points than her Czech opponent.
Although, Cetkovska had struck 5 double faults hitting the net, she still had a grip on her sturdy defence as she did not set up a single break point opportunity for her adversary and instead broke her opponent twice.
Mean while, the Espanola’s defence was not as skilled as her opponent’s and as she was unable to save the 2 break points on her serve and she lost the second set with 7 fewer points than the Czech’s.
Following her victory in the second set, the world number 45 (Cetkovska) bagged the third set and even though she had a faltering accuracy, she was still capable of winning an exceptional 73% of her total service points along with
an average return winning 48% of her total return points, thus attaining a total of 58% win to overcome her 29-year-old opponent.
In the third set the Spaniard had performed extremely poorly, she had no control over her defence and struck 9 break points out of which she was able to save 7, however her adversary had not setup a break point situation and instead
capitalized on the two break points she won, which gave her an added advantage towards winning the set.
Mean while, the 29-year-old Hispanic’s conquest was short lived as she mustered only 52% of her total service points, she nosedived in her return serve as she was only capable of attaining 6 out of 22 points, makingit a pathetic
27% win of her total return points and hence, was unable to produce the numbers which resulted in her losing the match.
The world number 45, Petra Cetkovska upset the world number 34, Anabel Medina Garrigues’ victory and restricted her to just two games in the set, while at the same time, securing a berth in the second round of the event.
