Petra Chocova conquers Women’s 50m breaststroke semi-finals: Day six – European LC Championships
Petra Chocova of Czech Republic conquered the semi-finals of Women’s 50m breaststroke on sixth day of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Saturday, May 26.
The 25-year-old Chocova sustained her fastest qualification spot of the discipline by dominating the semi-finals of the single lap breaststroke discipline.
With her astonishing efforts, Chocova remained marginally ahead of her following swimmers and reached the finishing end with the fastest timing of 31.44 seconds.
Chocova was chased by Sycerika McMahon of Ireland, who elevated her efforts in the second round and snared second best spot of the event by producing a time of 31.51 seconds.
McMahon faced strong competition from her following swimmer, Valentina Artemyeva of Russia in the 50m event but she succeeded in edging her out over the finishing end. Artemyeva stayed 0.01 seconds apart and clocked a time of 31.52 seconds for third position.
Fourth finest spot of the event was secured by Caroline Ruhnau of Germany, who was 0.07 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 31.59 seconds.
Similarly, Ruhnau was followed by Concepcion Badillo Diaz of Spain, who remained 0.07 seconds apart and completed her swim with the timing of 31.66 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured Katharina Stiberg of Norway, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower and submitted a time of 31.84 seconds.
Stiberg was chased by Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir, who was 0.11 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 31.95 seconds for seventh position of the event.
After that, the arena witnessed exhausting efforts of Martina Moravcikova of Czech Republic and Mariya Liver of Ukraine, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck swim for last qualification spot of the discipline.
The duo failed to outsmart each other on the finishing end and ended in a joint finish for eighth position by producing an effort of 31.96 seconds.
The spectators acknowledged forceful efforts of all participants in the semi-final of the breaststroke discipline while these swimmers will race each other in the playoff to secure gold medal of the event. Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion
of all swimming events.
