Petra Granlund and Masafumi Yamaguchi dominate at the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Petra Granlund and Masafumi Yamaguchi produced mouth shattering swims at the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup, in Dubai. The first round of the World Series was conducted in United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The session of the competition held the
Women’s 200m butterfly and Men’s 50m back-stroke events.
Petra Granlund thrashed out Daryna Zevina of Ukraine and Spela Bohinc of Slovakia by submitting a fastest time of 2 minutes and 09.71 seconds to win the Men’s 200m butterfly title. Meanwhile, Zevina earned second position with a time of 2 minutes and 13.57
seconds and Spela Bohinc settled for third with a mark of 2 minutes and 16.67 seconds. United Arab Emirates’ Aysha Xanthe Anouque Berghuis picked fourth position with a time of 2 minutes and 32.56 seconds.
On the other hand, Japan’s juvenile athlete, Masafumi Yamaguchi put up a great show in the Men’s 50m back-stroke final heat and notched the golden crown by posting a matchless time of 24.17 seconds. Meanwhile, Kristian Kron of Sweden settled for second place
with a time of 25.99 seconds and United Arab Emirates’ Mammed Humaid Al Ghaferi picked third position with a mark of 26.08 seconds.
Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin earned fourth position with a time of 26.16 seconds, while Kolin Kevin Riazanov of United Arab Emirates settled for fifth place with a time of 26.82 seconds. Gene Laurence of United Arab Emirates got sixth position with a time
of 26.99 seconds, while Syria’s Ayman Klzie earned seventh place with a mark of 27.59 seconds.
Additionally, the Men’s 1500m freestyle title was clinched by Samuel Pizzetti with a time of 14 minutes and 56.85 seconds. Sergii Frolov of Ukraine wound up second with a time of 15 minutes and 04.49 seconds, while Italy’s Federico Colbertaldo settled third
in a time of 15 minutes and 19.21 seconds.
The swims of all athletes were appreciated by spectators, while the triumphant swimmers were awarded medals and cash prizes after the session’s completion. The 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup is a thrilling occasion for all swimmers to compete at the international
level and measure their capabilities to perform in upcoming events that includes the 2012 London Olympics.
The next round of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series is set to occur in Stockholm, Sweden, from October 15-16, in which Australia and Canada will join other teams to compete in the event.
