Petra Granlund clinches Women’s 200m butterfly title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series saw the sizzling swim of Petra Granlund in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The final session conducted the Women’s 200m butterfly race.
Petra Granlund proved her dominance, as she was up against strong contestants like Daryna Zevina of Ukraine and Spela Bohinc of Slovakia in the 200m butterfly final heat. The race got-off to a strong start, but Petra showed her consistency in the meet and
clinched the gold title on the podium by posting a scintillating time of 2 minutes and 09.71 seconds. Petra’s inspiring swim impressed spectators and she was really pleased with her wonderful splash in the evening session.
Petra Granlund is a competitive swimmer of Sweden. She swims in both freestyle and butterfly strokes. Previously, Granlund won gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly meet at the 2008 European Championships, in Rijeka. In the corresponding race, she secured
one bronze medal at the 2010 World Championships edition, in Dubai. Like other swimmers, Petra Granlund’s ultimate aspiration of the life is to participate in the 2012 London Olympic Games and win gold title for her nation.
On the other hand, European champion, Daryna Zevina impressed to her followers by clinching silver medal with a triumphant mark of 2 minutes and 13.57 seconds. Meanwhile, Spela Bohinc put up a great swim and went to win the bronze title by posting a matchless
time of 2 minutes and 16.67 seconds. United Arab Emirates’ Aysha Xanthe Anouque Berghuis earned fourth place honours in the respective meet after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim with a mark of 2 minutes and 32.56 seconds.
The swims of all athletes inspired everyone in the arena and the top-three winning players were delivered medals and cash prizes for their efforts in their respective meets after the session’s completion. The meet is a seven-stop series, while the next round
of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup is set to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, from October 15-16.
