Petra Kvitova and her dream season 2011 – Part Three
Regardless of losing the opener in the Beijing WTA Premier event, Petra Kvitova reached the 4th rank in the Sony Ericsson WTA rankings.
The Czech got full charged up and trained well for the indoor hard court tournament in Linz. She outplayed every opponent including a former world number one Jelena Jankovic from whom she lost the only set in this event. A top
seed in Linz, Kvitova blast past Rebecca Marino of Canada, a local wild card enterer Patricia Mayr-Achleitner and the eight seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia in the pre semis round. She then drilled through seventh seeded Slovak Dominika Cibulkova with
a breadstick in the title-round to clinch her fifth WTA title of the season.
"I was fighting for every point this week," Kvitova said after playing the last WTA Tour event. "The first set with Dominika was very close. I know how well she plays and I knew I had to play well to beat her.
The delighted Czech entered the WTA Championships final in Istanbul as world number three. She continued impressing everyone through exquisite forehands and backhands from her arsenal of skills and trashed sixth seeded Russian
Vera Zvonareva without losing a set.
Kvitova next locked horns with the world number one Caroline Wozniacki but overwhelmed the Dane’s resilience in straight sets.
Eighth seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska next confronted her. The Czech confidently earned a straight set victory against her after warding off early resistance.
After earning this success, the Czech youngster set-up date with the US Open titlist, Samantha Stosur of Australia in the semi-finals.  She made a shaky entry on the Turkish hard courts and lost the opener. However, Kvitova lifted
up her level of game and made an epic comeback to earn a three setter victory.
The blissful Kvitova confidently advanced into the final of the WTA Championships where fourth seeded Victoria Azarenka was waiting for her. She played her best tennis and outplayed the Belarusian in a three set mouth watering
finale to pocket her sixth WTA title of the season.
"It was unbelievable tennis," Kvitova said in her on-court interview right after the match. "We were both really fighting. Every game and every set was very close. Maybe I played better on the important points in the match. We
both played some of our best here in Istanbul today - it was a final, so why not!"
"It's hard to lose, but I'm glad I lost to such a champion who deserved to win," The Belarusian praised Kvitova. "Petra was amazing today. She really did a great job."
Kvitova is all geared up for the Fed Cup final singles where she will be representing her country Czech Republic. They are facing Russian team of Maria Kirilenko and Svetlana Kuznetsova and the high flying Czech is the highest
ranked among all the contestants between both countries.
"We want to win this beautiful cup and this is a big motivation and actually I'm not tired,” the Czech stated.
She is full confident of leading her country to glory in this tournament after earning the BNP Paribas Heart award. Czech Republic on the other hand has won the tournament five times but their last entry was in 1988.
