Petra Kvitova joins in the league of world greats and chosen to be the World Champion award winner by the International Tennis Federation. It was one of the best years for the Czech superstar. She stunned everyone by becoming the
Wimbledon Grand Slam champion and then continued her outstanding touch knock her counterparts in every aspect of the game, cruising her way to glory and reaching the status of world number two by the end of the year 2011.
She started the year as world number 34 and lunged her way into the top 10 and then flabbergasted everyone to steal the number two spot from the gorgeous tennis ace, Maria Sharapova. She never disappointed her fans and clinched
six titles earlier this year with a majestic 60-13 record.
She has been awarded earlier as the 2011 Player of the year by the Women Tennis Association. This award was not the only one she received in that ceremony, she was also awarded ‘Most Improved Player of the Year’ by the media representative;
she was also awarded Fan Favourite Breakthrough Player of the year by the tennis fans all across the globe. It has been one of the most remarkable of her year that she will not forget for the rest of her life.
21-year-old Czech was not only impressive at Wimbledon; she also astonished everyone by winning the year-end finale at of the Women Tennis Association Championships. She defeated the world number three, Victoria Azarenka, to register
an emphatic ending to the most mesmerizing season.
Her outstanding performances in Brisbane, Australian Open, Paris, Madrid, Parague, Eastbourne, Tokyo and Linz are worth mentioning as she managed to reach advanced stages of these entire tournaments with some eye-startling performances.
Kvitova’s excitement was inevitable at the ceremony and talking about her accomplishments plus this award, she said, “I will cherish this award, which is the cherry on top of a wonderful year.” Earlier in the Women Tennis Association
presentation ceremony, Czech proclaimed, “This season has been simply a dream. It is an incredible honour to win the Player of The Year award and join the ranks of some of the best players that have ever played the sport, especially Martina Navratilova. I
will always cherish the 2011 season and look forward to building on it."
Such a talent is rare to be seen in sports and receiving an appreciation from the International Tennis Federation’s president, Francesco Ricci Bitti, in these words “Petra has made a major breakthrough on the women's tour” is a
massive achievement.
