Petra Kvitova blows away Dominika Cibulkova to clinch title win – Generali Ladies Linz 2011
Top seeded wildcard entrant, Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic blasted past seventh seeded Slovak Dominika Cibulkova with a breadstick at the Generali Ladies Linz 2011, a WTA International tier-II event taking place on the indoor hard courts in Linz, Austria. She registered a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the lower ranked Slovak to shelf her fifth title of the season on Sunday.
Overpowering the Slovak for the fourth straight time, world number four Kvitova barely sweated in the final set to earn a straight set victory in one and half hour. She not only maintained her perfect record against Cibulkova but also won her fifth title of the season.
The high flying Czech started the season in her top form as she clinched the title at Brisbane, the first tournament she played in 2011. She carried her momentum in Paris, Madrid and put a cherry on her season by triumphing Wimbledon, the most prestigious Grand Slam event in tennis. Her formed dipped afterwards but she lifted her game again after entering Intersport Arena in Linz.
21-year-old stormed into the first set and got the desiderated break in the opening game and took the initial lead. She then maintained her composure to wipe out her upcoming serves and after exchanging a break in the eighth and ninth game, the highly positive Czech Republican clinched the opener with a 6-4 win.
The Bilovec native Kvitova repeated her entry ways in the second set as she broke the Slovak’s opening serve to take an early lead. Despite losing her edge in the very next game, she unleashed flurry of ground strokes to reel off next five games in a row to earn a breadstick.
Summing up Kvitova’s performance, she saved two out of four breakpoints faced and capitalised on six out of sixteen breakpoint opportunities to her advantage. The Czech also produced a higher first serve share and registered an acceptable 55 percent win on it.
"I was fighting for every point this week," the beaming Kvitova said. "The semifinal with Jelena was tough, but it was very nice tennis from both of us. I played my best at the end of it - it was a very good match. And the first set with Dominika was very close. I know how well she plays and I knew I had to play well to beat her…I had to play very well on the big points today. Of course I'm very happy I won."
Living her dreams, Kvitova is now taking a week off before going to TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul.
