Petra Kvitova conquers Caroline Wozniacki to move into last four – WTA Championships 2011
Third seeded Petra Kvitova pummelled the reigning world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the third round robin match of the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships 2011.
The two Red group contestants took up the gauntlet on indoor hard courts of the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey. After simply one hour and twenty four minutes current Wimbledon Champion Kvitova outshone Dane Wozniacki in straight
sets of 6-4, 6-2 on Thursday the 27th of October 2011.
The initial set of the match was a tad tricky for Kvitova to close but she eventually did it in the third set point.  Although the Wimbledon champion was only able to target 61 percent of her first serves, she expertly clogged
an ostentatious 88 percent of her first service points won.
Moreover, her defence was as strong as an ox and she did not give a single opportunity to her adversary to break her even once in the entire set. By capitalizing on a single break she managed to accomplish 53 percent of her total
points won in the opening set.
Initiating the first set of the match was the Dane and this time she got off to an extremely appalling start as she not only endorsed a game but the only crucial breakpoint in the entire set. Nevertheless, Kvitova capitalized on
the break and held her serve to bag straight two games and placed herself on the scoreboard with a lead of 2-0.
From there onwards the players matched a blow for a blow and the score progressed on even terms with Kvitova leading the game. Eventually in the tenth game the Czech (Kvitova) served for the match and smashed a marvellous ace to
accomplish the opening game.
The second set was a much easier feat for Kvitova as she powered through the set. She not only had a good service game but was able to take a notch higher in her return game as well.
Commencing the second set was again Wozniacki and once more she was unable to hold her service game. Kvitova squandered off four consecutive games by capitalizing on two early breaks and placed herself on the scoreboard with a
comfortable lead of 4-0.
During the last four games the players held their service games and in doing so; the Czech was able to bag the second set with a 6-2 score and sealed her victory of the match.
The debutant Kvitova achieved her second win against Wozniacki this year and also reserved the second spot in the semi final.
