World number two, Czech Petra Kvitova is all set for the Apia International 2012, a WTA premier event taking place on the outdoor hard courts from January 8th to January 14th.
Despite exiting from the opening round this season, Czech number one Kvitova - who shelved six career titles this season, is all geared up for the Sydney WTA tournament 2012. With her tremendous performance in Australia this season,
which she saw her first title of the season in Brisbane WTA International event and a quarter-final showing at the Australian Open, Kvitova is full confident of reaching far in Sydney.
"I have had some great results in Australia over the years winning in Hobart and Brisbane, so hopefully 2012 will be my year to win the title in Sydney," the beaming Czech said. “The Sydney event is really tough and most of the
top girls play there each year so it is a great opportunity to get some good matches in before the Australian Open. I really see the event as the perfect preparation for the first grand slam of the year."
Tournament director Craig Watson added: "We have had some outstanding line-ups in the women's draw over the years and 2012 is shaping up to be one of the best ever."
The high flying Czech grabbed a total of twelve career title out of which she lifted six in 2011. From the start of the season in Brisbane and to the end in the WTA Championships, Kvitova displayed exceptional skills from her arsenal
of skills to prevail in her best career season. She was standing at the world number 34 in January and ended her season ranked at number two in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier Rankings. In addition to this, Kvitova also helped her country clinch the Fed Cup
after overpowering Russians (tumbled over Maria Kirilenko and Svetlana Kuznetsova). Her season was also highlighted by winning a Grand Slam event, Wimbledon Championships.
World number one Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark will pose major threat to the Czech. Wozniacki also won six titles this season and is in great form.
