Petra Kvitova outmuscles Caroline Wozniacki to reach the final – Dubai Tennis Championships 2013
World number eight, Petra Kvitova, blasted her way into the title match of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after dismantling the former top ranked Dane, Caroline Wozniacki, in the semis. The number six seed Czech took
merely 82 minutes to wrap up the proceedings in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and earned a title shot at this WTA Premier event in Dubai, UAE.
It was a relatively one-sided contest, with the left-handed Czech dominating all the way. The head-to-head series between these two contenders was levelled at 3-3 prior to the semi-final and a stiff battle was anticipated on Friday’s
eve. However, Kvitova extended her winning streak against Wozniacki by nailing her third successive victory over the world number 10.
"I'm really glad how I played today - it was a great match," Kvitova said. "We are different players. She tries to put the balls back, and I'm the person who is playing aggressively and going for the winners. So what happens in
the match really depends on if I'm missing a lot or no, and I played well today. The atmosphere here is really nice. I enjoyed every moment today and I'm happy I'm in the final."
Kvitova has been in sublime form throughout the Dubai Tennis Championships, as she also stunned the fourth ranked defending champion, Agnieszka Radwanska, in straight sets. She carried on her winning impetus in the semi-final encounter
and outplayed Wozniacki in every segment of the game. The eighth ranked Czech registered four out of six break points and reeled off 22 out of 31 first serve points en route to victory. On the other hand, Wozniacki could barely claim one break point out of
her four priceless chances in the entire matchup. She was disappointed with her performance in the end.
"She just went for every shot and hit it deep, and I came under pressure straightaway," Wozniacki said after the match. "I thought I served well, though. In the second set I think I had my chances, and I probably should have taken
them but I didn't.
Kvitova will take on the Italian number one, Sara Errani, in the title match of the tournament on Saturday evening.
