Petra Kvitova pulls out of Dubai Duty Free Championship – Tennis News
World number three, Petra Kvitova, has aired very disappointing news for her fans. She is not going to play at the Dubai Duty Free Championship, starting on Monday, 20th February, 2012. Although, she
didn’t mention any injury reasons, it’s very sad to hear such news especially from one of the most talented and deserving top players of the world.
The Czech started her New Year’s campaign with a title to her name at Perth. She won the Hopman Cup defeating the likes of the French tennis ace, Marion Bartoli, in the final of the tournament. She continued her sublime run
of form in the Apia International Sydney before the Chinese superstar, Li Na, overpowered her in an enthralling three-setter semi-final battle.
She was one of the strongest contenders for the Australian Open title. The second seed superstar defeated the former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, in the fourth round and carried her supreme run of play to the semi-finals
where she faced-off the Russian beauty queen, Maria Sharapova. She fought well but wasn’t able to power down the slender-legged diva. She won both her singles contest in the Fed Cup against German team and helped her country to win tie with a margin of 4-1.
She is out of action since then, forcing her to drop to the third rank in the world and Sharapova taking over her spot. It was a good opportunity for her to claim the spot back but the mysterious injury has forced her out
of the competition. Probably, her purple patch is over; her Belarusian counterpart, Victoria Azarenka, is steaming with confidence winning three back-to-back titles, including the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open.
She made a right decision to take care of her health and return to the sporting arena with 100 per cent fitness. She is just 21-years-old and there is ample time in her career to achieve several landmarks including the flare
of climbing to the top spot in the world rankings.
In the first encounter of Dubai Duty Free Championship, Shahar Peer crashed Fatma Al Nabhani in straight sets to progress ahead.
