Petra Kvitova ready to launch her New Year’s campaign in Brisbane – Tennis News
Former world number two, Petra Kvitova, was under the lime light after her breakthrough season in 2011 but her inconsistency and niggling injuries have almost excluded her from the potential winners’ list of Major tournaments next
year. The Czech number one player is currently in Brisbane, getting ready to launch her onslaught at the Brisbane International WTA tournament.
2011 WTA season brought huge luck for the 22-year-old, as she won six championship titles, including the all-prestigious Wimbledon Championships. She rocketed into the elite Top-10 rankings after some remarkable shows of high class
performances. Indeed 2011 was the most successful year for the crafty left-hander so far and it should not be forgotten that her purple patch started off from Brisbane International. Kvitova outclassed the likes of Nadia Petrova, Ksenia Pervak, Dominika Cibulkova,
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Andrea Petkovic to claim the season-opening title in style.
"I love being here in Australia, and especially in Brisbane - I have so many great memories from winning here in 2011," Kvitova said. "It's a great tournament, and that was the beginning of a great season. Before I was going somewhere
else to do fitness training in high altitude, but this year we decided to train at home in Prostejov in the Czech Republic. I didn't do anything really different with my tennis training, but it was really nice to be able to train and stay at home, and it was
a good change from what I'd done previously."
Currently holding the eighth rank in the WTA Premier Rankings, Kvitova started off the 2012 season as the world number two and was merely a whisker away from clinching the world number one spot at the Australian Open. She lost
in the semi-final rounds of the Grand Slam tournament and Victoria Azarenka claimed the top spot in WTA rankings after winning her maiden Major.
Kvitova is a true fighter and no wonders if she sweep away majority of WTA title next year. She has been labouring extremely hard to sustain her physical fitness and Brisbane International might give her the required ‘push’ to
redeem her vintage glory right at the beginning of the new tennis season.
