Petra Kvitova talks about her comeback to the tennis circuit in Indian Wells – Tennis News
World number three, Petra Kvitova, has shot 30 ranks in a single year to make it to the Top-5 players of the world but she is interested in gobbling up that number one spot. She had a chance to accomplish her dream in the Australian
Open tournament earlier this year but she couldn’t halt the every shining slender-legged Russian, Maria Sharapova, in the semi-final stages.
The left-handed Czech will be the defending champion in the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament later this year. She has swapped places with Sharapova after losing to her in the semi-final and is currently holding up to the number
three spot firmly.
While talking to the representatives of media, she stated, “After I won at Wimbledon, a lot of things changed during my life. It's different playing this year, but I still have to play my game and be focused. I had a little cold,
but tried to be back and ready. I was injured and for around a week I was lying on the bed.”
She has been out of action for quite some time. The last match she played was on 5th Feb in the Federation Cup against the German tennis ace, Sabine Lisicki. She won the match to give her team a lead in the rubbers round.
She won the season-opener at Perth but failed to outfox the Chinese superstar, Li Na, in the Apia Sydney International. She was scheduled to play in Dubai but retired from the tournament due to illness. She will be making her comeback
to the tennis circuit in Indian Wells and look to save few points or may be have a shot at the title if she finds her sublime form.
Kvitova further added, “I was looking forward to playing matches here again. It's nice and I like to play here. I hope it's not too difficult. I like to play my best outdoors, probably like more indoors, but its part of the season.”
She is disappointed at the weather conditions in California. It is extremely windy that makes it difficult for the players to time the ball and place it at their will. She hopes that conditions get better when her tie starts. She
has a first round Bye and will take on her compatriot, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. Strycova defeated Ayumi Morita in a gruelling three-setter on Wednesday. It is going to be a tough contest for Kvitova considering the fact that she has been out of action for
a month or so.
