Petra Kvitova triumphs at WTA China Open 2010
Both them of them pushed each other to the limits on the grass court Grand Slam tournament earlier this season at the All England Club in London, so why not at the WTA 2010 China Open event too?
Two of the strongest hitters on the tour Petra Kvitova and Kaia Kanepi faced each other once again on one of the biggest stages in the game of tennis. History repeated itself and again it was Petra who proved too good for Kaia, defeating the Estonian tennis
player in three sets on Tuesday. The final match score was 7-5, 6-7(6), 6-2.
World number twenty three Kaia and Petra who is currently ranked number thirty four in the world by the Women Tennis Association previously met in the quarter final round of Wimbledon, with Kaia preventing a total of five match points for a three-setter
victory and a position in the final four. The final match score was 4-6, 7-6(8,) 8-6.
On this occasion, they played for nearly two and a half hours in Beijing and it seemed like Kaia would bounce back from match point down to triumph, as she prevented one down 6-5 in the second set breaker and extended the battle to a third set on Tuesday.
From two all in the final, it was Petra however; as she grabbed four straight games including two comfortable breaks of serve to advance.
If the world number two Caroline Wozniacki manages to overpower Sara Errani on Wednesday, Petra could be her next foe in a highly profile round of sixteen battle at the 2010 China Open in Beijing. In case, if Caroline reaches the quarter in Beijing, the
Dane will ascend the number one spot next Monday.
The previous time Caroline met Kvitova, things didn't go the Dane’s way, as the professional tennis player from Czech Republic cruised to a two-setter victory at Wimbledon, a round prior to Kanepi’s clash. The final match score was 6-2, 6-0.
Another one of Petra's victims at Wimbledon, Victoria Azarenka who is seeded number eight here in Beijing failed to complete her opening clash, as she withdrew during the second set while playing against Timea Bacsinszky as a result of her thigh strain on
Tuesday. Victoria grabbed the opening set, however, dropping serve at 2-all in the following set was unable to continue, giving Timea a 4-6, 3-2 retirement win.
