Petra Martic disposes of Su-Wei Hsieh in the second round – Budapest Grand Prix 2012
Seeded at number six in the tournament draw, the Croatian tennis ace registered a thumping straight sets victory over Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei in the second round of the Budapest Grand Prix on Wednesday. She wrapped up her
resounding victory in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to force her way into the quarter-finals of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Tour event in Budapest, Hungary.
The world number 51, Martic, took barely 64 minutes to drive her opponent out of the competition in an assertive fashion. The sixth seed avenged her defeat from Hsieh, who outsmarted Martic in the final of Malaysia Open earlier
this year to bag her maiden WTA title in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Croatian hunted down Hsieh this time round and gave her no such opportunity in the contest to have an impact over the game. She faced limited resistance from the Taiwanese opponent and cruised
through the two sets to register her 13th victory of the running season.
Martic delivered 64 per cent of her first serve on target and dropped just seven points on it, pocketing 22 out of 29 en route to victory. She crafted eight break chances in the match and converted five of them to route her opponent
with authority. On the other hand, Hsieh replied with merely one break point in the entire matchup and dropped 17 out of 38 points her serve to finish on the losing side in the end.
"She's a very tough opponent," said Martic after reaching the round of eight. "We played two months ago and it was not a very good memory for me. It was really important to me to try to do better than the last time. I mixed up
my serve very well today and I tried to be aggressive, which worked really well for me."
Playing her first WTA clay court event of the 2012 circuit, Martic will now feature the quarter-final round of the Budapest Grand Prix later this week. She will square off against the unseeded Russian, Elena Vesnina, who stood
victorious against the second seed Ksenia Pervak in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday.
