Petra Martic is disappointed with her performance at the Bell Challenge – Tennis News
World number 76, Petra Martic, has said that although she is happy to be back on the court after incurring a serious injury during the French Open but she is disappointed with performance in the recent tournaments.
Martic was badly beaten by Georgia’s 52nd ranked player, Anna Tatishvili, in the second round of the Bell Challenge in Quebec City, Canada on Thursday. The Croatian managed to win just five games in the entire contest,
losing it in straight sets 2-6, 3-6 in just an hour and 18 minutes.
Talking to the reporters in the post match press conference, Martic accepted that she played very badly. She said, "It's disappointing to play the way I did today. I was making a lot of mistakes. I just get so insecure and make
errors, and it's hard against a player like Anna, who is very steady, fighting like a lion and not giving away one free point. But it's just the way it is right now, and I'll have to get through it."
Martic gave a breakthrough performance at this year’s French Open, where she reached the last 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. The Croatian gave a tough fight to Germany’s Angelique Kerber but went down 3-6,
5-7 in the fourth round. She stunned the then world number eight, Marion Bartoli of France, in the second round.
The Croatian player added, "I got injured in Paris - it was a tear and it became inflamed and swollen. I'm happy to be healthy again but I'm not on the level I'd like to be.”
Martic lost in the first round of three consecutive events after the French Open. Despite suffering injury at the Roland Garros, she featured at the Bad Gastein and was upset by 138th ranked player at that time, Yvonne
Meusburger, in the opening match.
The Croatian got thrashed by the 15th seed, Sabine Lisicki of Germany, in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships. At the US Open, she was defeated by the defending champion, Australia’s Samantha Stosur, again
at the very first hurdle.
