Petra Rampre crushes Cagla Buyukakcay in the second qualifier – Barcelona Ladies Open 2012
World number 153, Petra Rampre, defeated the 22-years-old Turkish, Cagla Buyukakcay, to reach the final qualifying battle of the Barcelona Ladies Open. She registered a straight sets triumph in 6-3, 6-1 taking just an hour and
18 minutes.
It was a pretty one-sided traffic throughout the match. Rampre was the one leading the show and playing some of her best tennis of her career. At the age of 32, she looked fresh and hungry for more wins which is always a treat
to watch.
She started the match at a high-note; broke her rival’s serve in the third game and took a lead of 3-1 courtesy to a couple of easy serve holds at the start. She kept on bamboozling the youngster with her mind-startling shot selection.
The Slovenian veteran kept on assaulting the youngster with her powerful strokes; broke serve for the second time in the seventh game and took a resounding lead of 5-2. She just needed to hold her serve to round off the opening
set proceedings but a cameo from the Turk held her in the eighth game and kept the set alive.
However, the Slovenian triumphed in the following game courtesy to the fourth breakthrough of the set for her. It was a cracking triumph. She won the set with a gap of five points in the end; winning 34 off the total 63 points
played. One ace apiece and a couple of double-faults from both players were some of the other interesting stats of the set.
The second set was dominated throughout by the Slovenian who broke serve twice on the trot to register an unassailable lead of 5-0 at the start. She was not tested at all on her serves and her opponent looked tired throughout the
encounter.
Buyukakcay was not reaching for the returns that were slightly difficult; portraying a bit of fatigue creeping in to her game play. The match was ended with comprehensive serve holds at both ends. The sixth seed Rampre advances
the final qualifier of the tournament where she plays the Yuliya Beygelzimer of Ukraine who stunned the second seed Italian, Karin Knapp, in the opening qualifier. It will be a thrilling battle to say the least.
In another match, the Italian tennis professional, Annalisa Bona, made her way into the final qualifying round after the seventh seed Russian, Ekaterina Ivanova, retired at the end of the first set due to a right hip injury.
