Petra Rampre defeats Liga Dekmeijere in qualifying 2nd round – Bell Challenge 2011
Number 5 seed Petra Rampre battled it out on indoor hard courts of PEPS Laval University Campus, Quebec City, Canada against un-seeded Liga Dekmeijere for a place in the final qualies of the Bell Challenge 2011.
Playing the second qualifying round for 55 minutes and coming out victorious was Slovenian Rampre in straight sets of 6-1, 6-3.
After winning the pitch, Dekmeijere was serving first for the initial round of the first set and in the first two games both the players won on their respective serves. However, in the third game Rampre broke Dekmeijere to take
the lead at 2-1. She then went on to holding her serve in the fourth game and with a cross-court backhand forced her opponent to fault as Dekmeijere’s serve landed outside the service line in the fifth game. By holding her serve in the sixth game, she was
leading the score board with a 5-1; this was it for the number 5 seeded player, as she was looking to break her Latvian adversary for the third and last time. She ultimately broke her opponent by producing a raking forehand down the line which Dekmeijere failed
to control and gave the set point to Rampre to take.
Rampre was an impressive player as she did not allow a single break point opportunity for her adversary and instead smashed an ace and with 27 total set points won the opening set in a comprehensive victory.
Opening the second set was Rampre, as both the layers rallied a game for a game in the first six games; the score board was levelled at 3-3. During the seventh game Rampre held her serve by smashing an ace at 40- love and in the
eighth game the Slovenian broke her adversary for the first and last time by placing a forehand return which the Latvian overshoots out of court. At such a crucial stage in the game, when serving for the match Rampre again smashes an ace at 40- love to secure
yet another flawless victory of 6-3.
During the entire match Rampre did not setup a single break point chance for her rival and instead broke her four out of the six times. In the end Rampre benefitted from 20 more points in the total match points and was able to
secure a place in the final qualies where she will face French Julie Coin.
