I have just seen an advert for a simple modification that you add to your car. The claim of the site is it can cut your fuel consumption in HALF. It does this by mixing a small part water + normal fuel!!!.

Can this be true? (I dont think so) I'm sure that in principle it will work.....but why isnt the world using them esp @ 110p + -per litre????

  1. They are scams see http://www.phact.org/e/dennis.html   ;;;      In fact there is a $1000000 prize if any one can prove that claim. http://www.phact.org/e/dennis27.htm

  2. Without knowing the exact device, I am guessing it is one of the many "water injection" systems or possibly one of the HHO systems. Lots of folks are making some outrageous claims for the fuel economy but there is little in the mainstream to validate those claims.

  3. wouldn't the water cause corrosion in the engine

  4. No, it's bogus.

All these "miracle fuel saver" products are supplied with a booklet containing lots of long scientific-sounding words which you aren't meant to understand and some general advice for how to "protect your investment".

Only .....  the tips for "how not to knacker your new magic gadget" are just sensible things like avoid harsh acceleration / braking, don't rev in neutral, don't carry too much unnecessary stuff in your boot, don't sit on the biting point, keep your tyres properly inflated, switch off the engine if the lights were on amber when you approached them &c.  Which, if you take them to heart, will save you fuel with or without the "miracle device".

Urban legends about oil companies patenting fuel-saving devices and keeping them locked up are also bunk.  Patents can be annulled easily enough, especially if the holder is not making use of the invention.

  5. Nobody has been able to make those devices work in a controlled experiment.  Adding hydrogen to the engine does make it work better but the extra load on the alternator means that you never break even.

  6. Adding water? no way. But if it's adding Acetone then i have heard before
