  1. If I have understood your question correctly the answer is:

as individual, you can choose to minimize your personal use of petroleum, that is use public transport instead of your personal car, or walk or use a bicycle.

You can also buy products that are produced nearby and that have not been transported via trucks, etc.

There is something that you can do, but unfortunately there is a quote of petroleum that you consume indirectly as electricity, goods that are produced elsewhere and transported where you live, plastic products you use, rubber soles for shoes or synthetic rubber for tires, food additives, many of the materials used to make the clothes you wear, or the carpet you walk on, plus hundreds of the other products we take for granted and that are made from petrochemicals. As the name implies, a main ingredient in petrochemicals is oil! Have a look at http://www.priweb.org/ed/pgws/uses/uses_...

So, you understand now why the petroleum crisis is called CRISIS, as it involves a much wider market than the one of the fuel...

BUT, remember that the ocean is made by drops...that is every little drop counts, so, you can do something which maybe will not solve the planet's problem but will help you and your economy a bit! And if all the drops do the same, they can change the world!

  2. I'm assuming your talking about the inflated petrol prices because you drive a car? Petroleum is oil and gas. There is plenty of gas out there just not enough oil which makes petrol. Its estimated that will be completely devastated of oil in 40 years. This is part of the reason why there is inflated petrol rises. The other reason is because some of these oil reservoirs are not economicable to extract so they jack up the prices to make a profit. As there is plenty of gas left on the planet, it would alot cheaper on the long term to switch to gas rather than to continue to pay for oil (petrol). If that doesn't tickle you fancy, you can always ride a bicycle.
