Petrova considers Errani as a boring player and admires the sovereignty of Serena – Tennis News
Former world number three, Nadia Petrova, has spoken bluntly about the lack of ability in the game style of the Italian tennis ace, Sara Errani, for the inclusion in the elite Top-5 category. She believes that the eighth ranked
Italian will not stay amongst the top players because of her slow and boring game play. She was commenting about the number one Italian performer who defeated her in the quarter-final of the Dubai Duty Free Championships and reached the finals where she was
conquered by the likes of the Czech superstar, Petra Kvitova.
Commenting to the media representatives of Sport Express Russian, the 30-year-old superstar stated about Errani, “When you are constantly carrying on the court for two or three hours, it eventually affects you. Therefore, those
who play such boring tennis, mostly relying on errors from their opponents, don’t stay in the elite for a long time. I prefer a different style.”
It might be a criticism which might ignite some rivalry amongst the two athletes who are separated vastly on the scale of experience but are ranked closely to one another with Petrova falling behind just four places (ranked at
12).
She further added, “Serena is such an important figure for our sport. There really aren’t that many really outstanding personalities in women's tennis. For example, Agnieszka Radwanska is playing well, but still is not the best.
Vika Azarenka, admittedly, not all see her as the leader of our tour. Kvitova, Stosur, Kerber - great players. But Serena is only comparable to Maria Sharapova.”
There is no doubt about the number one player in the world who has rocked at every stage. Williams is the oldest world number one player in the history of the Women Tennis Association which is a clear indication of her ability
and class. Similarly, the likes of Maria Sharapova, ranked third, completed a career Gold Slam by winning the French Open title last year. She defeated Errani in the final.
The reaction of Errani about this blunt criticism is awaited by the tennis fanatics but apparently, the few pointers stated by the Russian tennis ace, Petrova, are correct as supported by the commentators as well.
