Carl Pettersson missing from the list of Ryder Cup
It might come as a surprise for some and a shock for others as Swedish golfer Carl Pettersson, despite his highly praised performance at the Sony Open, failed to make his place in the Ryder Cup.
Adding to this is the fact that he has been signalled out from the entrants making to the tournament, from the American as well as the European wings.
Pettersson, who shifted to America with his family and has been living in North Carolina for a long time, currently enjoys the status of being an American citizen.
"My first top 10 is as an American," said Pettersson. In this case, it is astounding that, even after acquiring the status of being a US national, he has not been included in the list of candidates competing from US in the Ryder Cup.
According to PGA Tour spokesman, Joel Schuchmann, in order to satisfy and meet the eligibility requirements for the tournament, it was mandatory for Carl to become a citizen of the US by his 18th birthday.
Since that did not happen, there are issues regarding his eligibility in the tournament.
While playing the Sony Open, Sweden’s flag still appeared beside the name of the 34-year-old golfer.
Since, for PGA, he is still being categorised as a Swedish citizen, it provided PGA another opportunity to further strengthen its stance on his ineligibility.
It was disclosed, "He now only has the opportunity to play for Europe with Sweden being his native country".
However, problems will not end for Pettersson that easily, even from the European faction.
The problem is that he has not been registered as a member of the European Tour, which will ultimately prevent him from appearing in events held in Europe also.
It is also important to mention here that his name is still facing rejection from the European events list.
Hence, in order to give his golfing career rejuvenation, he will have to resolve these complications as soon as possible.
With four PGA Tour wins in his career, Pettersson has enjoyed an eventful era in the sport so far.
Once these issues are sorted out, Carl Pettersson will be in a much better position to provide his career a further boost.
