Petya Nedelcheva overpowers Kristina Gavnholt in Women’s Singles first round at Yonex Denmark Open
Bulgaria’s ace shuttler Petya Nedelcheva started her campaign in a positive manner as she overpowered Kristina Gavnholt of Czech Republic in Women’s Singles first round at Yonex Denmark Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Wednesday, October 17, in Denmark.
The in-form Petya, who has been playing convincing badminton for the last couple of years, employed all of her reserves to get rid of her talented opponent in a hard-fought three-set competition that took 53 minutes on court.
Petya could not find a good start in the match but she found a good flow in the following games and managed to win this battle in a nail-biting fashion with a decent difference on score board.
The impressive Kristina, on the other hand, played with precision and snatched the opening set from her rival but could not continue her winning run in the following sets and eventually lost the battle in a reasonable manner.
In the first game, it was Kristina who showed her class as she played fast badminton by taking the bird in time and made her rival work hard to return the shots from all corners of the court.
Petya tried her best to stop the aggression of Kristina in the concluding half of first set but she failed to play dominating badminton and ultimately went down with a 15-21 score on the board.
However, it was an entirely difference case in the following set when Petya played with incredible power in her shots and managed a staggering lead until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Petya remained on track without showing any respect to her challenger and levelled the match by taking the second game with a one-sided margin of 21-11.
In the decider, Petya showed no sign of slowing down the pace of rallies and set up a huge gap until the end of first half.
Bulgarian shuttler continued her inspiring run on court and remained successful in finishing up the set in a striking manner with a 21-14 score on the board.
The in-form Petya won this thrilling battle in three games with a convincing difference of 15-21, 21-11 and 21-14.
