Has anyone here tried Petzlife dental products?

My dog has a bit of buildup on her back teeth (my fault, I slacked off on brushing her teeth for several months) and am wondering if this will help and how effective it is.

You can see on her back teeth where there's some yellowish buildup.

She's always gotten bully sticks, and recently she's been getting raw meaty bones a couple times a week, but I need something that will kick it up notch to get nip this in the bud.

I want to avoid having her teeth cleaned by the vet. Not because I don't want to pay, but I don't want to unnecessarily anesthetize her.

(And please don't suggest things like Greenies. I stick to more natural things than edible plastic for my dog.)

  1. Nice teeth!

You're going to get staining no matter what you do - what you're trying to prevent is the tartar. So... how your dog's teeth look right now is just fine.

My personal favorite for dental care is DermaPet Dentacetic Dental Wipes. They do the job of a toothbrush with a lot more ease, a better smell and taste. My vets were shocked to see how my greyhound's teeth and gums looked after two weeks.

There is also an injection (vaccine) for periodontal-disease-causing bacteria. I've blanked on the name, but many canine dentists swear by it.

Hill's T/D and Purina DH are also a favorite in terms of supplemental diets. They certainly do the job, but require the pet to really chomp down on them. Personally, I'd rather do the scrubbing than hope my dog is chewing correctly.

C.E.T Aquadent may also be worth a try - its an add-to-water dental supplement.

Purina Dental Chews and Dentahex chews are similiar to what you've been doing with the bully sticks - they're rawhides, but evenly coated with an enzymatic solution to help break down tartar while the chews help scrub it away. I've found the Purina Chews to be more popular.

  2. I use petzlife on my dogs, one is unable to have anesthesia due to end stage heart problems, and think it helps. The raw bones are good and I also like Merrick flossies as they scrape the teeth as they chew.

  3. Yup, I use it for my Paps, it works pretty well.  I try to use it once a week at the least, preferably a few times.  I'd like to use it every day but I just forget sometimes.  :-(   It definitely does work though.

Edit:  Btw, I use the gel not the spray, so I'm not sure if the spray is more or less effective than the gel.

  4. I have! I have! And I love it! It's not very strong so it takes some time to work and you have to spray it directly on the area where there's build up but it definitely works. One of my dogs had a bunch of tartar on his canine tooth that is now totally gone. All of my dogs have much better breath and I have noticed that even if they haven't had much build up actually removed in certain areas, it hasn't gotten any worse since I've been using it.

Oh, and it's $2 cheaper here and they have great customer service. My first order from them was damaged in shipping so not only did they resend the order but sent me DOUBLE what I ordered at no extra charge to make up for the problem!

  5. They sale this alot at my Vets office it must do good.  I  use galileo hard chew bones my dogs are hard chewers they help.

Your dogs teeth don't look bad at all she doesn't have tatar build up , have you ever tried C.E.T.Hextra with Chlorhexidine I also give these to my dogs daily.

  6. First of all, in my opinion your dog has beautiful teeth.  (you didn't give an age, but either way they look good)

I have not, and see absolutely no reason to, use any kind of potion to clean my dog's teeth...because I feed raw.

Given that you have been feeding RMB, I see absolutely no reason to worry about the teeth at all.  Just give it time.  Not only are you giving bone, the meat has enzymes in it that will help clean the teeth.

Greenies are not edible plastic, but I understand you not wanting to use them.

If my vet was jumping down my throat to get THOSE teeth cleaned, I'd be looking for a new vet.

  7. Have you tried Pet Kiss?
